You will want to give yourself at least 24 inches to open the lid fully. With cushions each measuring 7 1/4 inches in circumference (compressible to 6 1/2 inches) it accommodates most watches. For those of us with smaller wrists we find leaving the clasps open does the trick and does not damage the watch.
